Kolkata, Jan 3 (NationPress) A video claiming to show Humayun Kabir, a suspended legislator from the Trinamool Congress representing the Bharatpur Assembly, has taken social media by storm. In this clip, Kabir makes startling allegations of extensive corruption within the West Bengal government's health insurance initiative, 'Swasthya Sathi'.
He asserts that private medical facilities are manipulating hospital fees, inflating a basic bill of Rs 5,000 to as much as Rs 50,000, with these exaggerated amounts being funneled through the State Health Department.
Moreover, he claims that these institutions are able to expedite the clearance of these inflated bills by bribing state officials with Rs 10,000. According to Kabir, this results in a profit of Rs 35,000 over the original sum of Rs 5,000. He noted that while the approval for these inflated bills can take up to a year, the significant profit margin justifies the delay for these entities.
In the same video, Kabir sheds light on the dire conditions faced by patients in government hospitals in Murshidabad, stating, “Three patients are often crammed into one bed, while another patient is left lying on the floor.”
While the authenticity of the video remains unverified by IANS, it has been circulated widely, including by Amit Malviya, the Chief of the BJP Information Technology Cell, who commented on it via his social media platform.
Malviya emphasized a recent discovery by the Comptroller and Auditor General of India, revealing a whopping Rs 100 crore scam associated with flood relief efforts in Malda district, labeling the ongoing situation as a “systematic plundering of the people of Bengal” and a mockery of healthcare, allegedly sanctioned at the highest level by Mamata Banerjee. He further asserted, “Corruption now dominates every aspect of Bengal, from flood relief to healthcare, as Banerjee's regime exploits the very essence of the Bengali populace to bolster her own power.”
