New Delhi, Oct 10 (NationPress) Following the denial from the United States regarding media claims that it had greenlit the sale of sophisticated AIM-120 air-to-air missiles to Pakistan, the Congress party expressed serious apprehensions on Friday, warning that while these missiles may not be supplied today, they could very well be delivered tomorrow.
The US Embassy in India released a statement earlier, labeling the reports as “incorrect.” Their clarification highlighted that “No part of this referenced contract modification is for deliveries of new Advanced Medium-Range Air-to-Air Missiles (AMRAAMs) to Pakistan.”
Congress leader Rashid Alvi spoke with IANS, asserting, “America has altered its sales regulations. According to American law, it can provide arms to select nations while excluding others. Pakistan has now been placed on the list of countries eligible for arms. If missiles are not being supplied today, they will be supplied tomorrow. This signifies a significant shift in America’s foreign relations and policy.”
He went on to criticize the Indian government's reaction, stating, “Our Prime Minister seems so intimidated and subdued by President Trump that he lacks the courage to address such issues. Whether Trump restricts our citizens, raises tariffs on Indian exports, increases visa fees, or even hosts the Pakistani Army Chief for dinner, our Prime Minister continues to commend him. It’s truly unfortunate.”
Alvi also voiced concern over the alleged suicide of Haryana IPS officer Puran Kumar, whose wife claimed he faced caste-based discrimination and humiliation.
“The statement from his wife should be an eye-opener for the people of India and all political parties. This is devastating news. Under BJP governance, there is a lack of respect for Dalits and Muslims. A Dalit was lynched in Bareilly, which is under BJP rule. In Delhi, directly under Amit Shah’s oversight, and now in Haryana, an IPS officer is driven to such extremes due to caste-based humiliation. This is not merely misfortune — it reflects the reality of BJP governance,” Alvi remarked.
Alvi also addressed the ongoing discussions about firecrackers as Diwali approaches. With the Supreme Court currently reviewing the situation, Delhi CM Rekha Gupta recently proposed that at least green firecrackers should be permitted to allow residents to celebrate the festival.
On this topic, Alvi stated, “Regardless of the Supreme Court's ruling — given the current government’s pressure on every constitutional authority — under BJP leadership, citizens will not refrain from bursting crackers. Pollution levels will rise. I have observed this for quite some time.”
Alvi also responded to an incident involving an advocate who allegedly attempted to throw a shoe at Chief Justice of India B.R. Gavai, calling for immediate legal proceedings.
“Many people, including myself, are advocating for stringent legal action against him. Even now, BJP members are defending this individual on TV, praising his actions. A BJP leader, formerly the Director General of Police in Bhubaneswar, has commended his bravery. In such circumstances, this is intolerable. To date, not even an FIR has been lodged,” he noted.
In response to BSP leader Mayawati’s recent remarks commending the Yogi Adityanath government for maintaining the Kanshi Ram Memorial in Lucknow while also targeting the Samajwadi Party, Alvi said, “I am uncertain why Mayawati has praised the Yogi government. Is it due to the memorial's upkeep? She is well aware that the Yogi government has systematically oppressed Dalits and Muslims in Uttar Pradesh. Bulldozers have been deployed to demolish homes. Only she can clarify her reasons for praise.”
