Chennai, Oct 13 (NationPress) The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted significant rainfall across 11 districts in Tamil Nadu today, advising residents to prepare for severe showers along with thunder and lightning in various areas of the state.

The latest bulletin from the IMD indicates that moderate to heavy rain is anticipated in numerous locations throughout Tamil Nadu, including Puducherry and Karaikal.

Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are expected in isolated regions, particularly in hilly and interior areas. Districts such as Coimbatore and Tiruppur, especially in the hilly zones, alongside Nilgiris, Erode, Salem, and Namakkal, are forecasted to receive heavy rainfall during the day.

Likewise, Theni, Madurai, Dindigul, Virudhunagar, and Dharmapuri districts are under a heavy rain alert.

In Chennai, the weather is expected to be partly cloudy, with light to moderate rains likely, along with occasional thunder and lightning during the evening or nighttime.

The IMD also mentioned that the maximum temperature in Chennai is expected to range from 32 to 33 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature may settle around 26 degrees.

Residents in vulnerable areas have been advised to stay vigilant and refrain from entering waterlogged zones.

Farmers are urged to take necessary precautions to safeguard their harvested crops and livestock, as rainfall activity is predicted to persist intermittently in the upcoming days.

The prevailing weather conditions are attributed to moisture-rich winds and a trough of low pressure extending across the southern peninsula, enhancing rainfall intensity across Tamil Nadu's western and southern districts.

Authorities have been instructed to closely monitor water levels in rivers and reservoirs, particularly in regions like the Nilgiris and Coimbatore, where continuous heavy rainfall could potentially lead to landslides or flash floods.
