Jammu, April 28 (NationPress) The President of the National Conference and former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Farooq Abdullah, has vehemently denounced the horrific terror attack in Pahalgam, emphasizing that India requires firm action to guarantee such incidents never happen again.

"We are profoundly distressed that our neighbor (Pakistan) continues to fail to grasp that such acts are a crime against humanity. If they think these attacks will drive us towards Pakistan, they are sorely mistaken. We rejected the two-nation ideology in 1947, and we reject it even more resolutely today. Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs, Christians — we are united. We will react to this aggression with strength and solidarity," stated Farooq Abdullah.

"If they believe such cowardly acts will diminish our resolve, they are mistaken. It will only fortify us. I have consistently supported dialogue with Pakistan, but how can we justify discussions when innocent lives are taken? How do we console the families who are mourning today? Not merely another Balakot strike — the nation now calls for tangible action to prevent these tragedies from reoccurring," he added.

Earlier that day, Omar Abdullah, the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, addressed a special Assembly session where a resolution condemning the Pahalgam terror attack was proposed.

On the Assembly floor, Omar Abdullah remarked: "For the first time, the nation stands united — from Kashmir to Kanyakumari — in denouncing this attack. Although we have faced such tragedies in the past, the pain remains unchanged today."

In reference to the emotional fallout, he noted: "Baisaran has once again fostered an atmosphere of fear. I found it difficult to find words to comfort the tourists. As their host, it was my duty to guarantee their safe return. What do I tell the children who have lost their father, or the young woman who recently married and is now grieving her husband?"

Tensions have escalated between India and Pakistan following the attack by terrorists, supported and aided by Pakistan, which resulted in the death of 26 innocent civilians, including 25 tourists and a local, in the Baisaran meadow of Pahalgam on April 22.

Point of View

It is imperative to acknowledge the collective pain felt across the nation in light of this tragedy. The call for strong action reflects a unified stance against terrorism, reinforcing that the country will not tolerate acts that jeopardize innocent lives. It is time for India to come together, ensuring that such heinous acts are not repeated, while striving for peace and dialogue.
