Jammu, Feb 21 (NationPress) India and Pakistan conducted a flag meeting on Friday at the Line of Control (LoC) in the Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir to discuss recent incidents of cross-LoC firing.

To reduce tensions along the LoC following recent cross-LoC firing and an improvised explosive device (IED) explosion that claimed the lives of two soldiers, including a captain, officials reported that the flag meeting was convened.

The meeting, led at the brigade commander level, took place at the LoC crossing point, Chakan Da Bagh in the district.

“Both parties emphasized that maintaining peace and tranquility along the borders is vital. The meeting, which lasted approximately 75 minutes, occurred in a friendly atmosphere. During the discussions, both sides committed to upholding the ceasefire agreement in the broader interest of border peace,” officials stated.

“Since the renewal of the ceasefire agreement on February 25, 2021, violations along the borders of Jammu and Kashmir have been infrequent,” officials noted.

In addition to the loss of two Indian Army personnel in the Akhnoor sector of the LoC on February 11, two more soldiers sustained injuries due to firing from the Pakistani side of the LoC in the Poonch and Rajouri districts.

The Indian Army responded to cross-border firing in the Poonch sector, with reports indicating that casualties were incurred on the Pakistani side.

The Army and security forces have maintained heightened vigilance along the LoC and within the hinterland, as traditional infiltration routes have remained accessible this winter due to limited snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah presided over two security review meetings concerning J&K. During these sessions, Amit Shah instructed security forces to ensure zero infiltration and a strict stance against terrorism.

Lt Governor Manoj Sinha also led two security meetings recently, one in Srinagar and another in Jammu. The Lt Governor urged police and security forces to dismantle the terror ecosystem by targeting terrorists, their over-ground workers (OGWs), and sympathizers.
