New Delhi, May 12 (NationPress) In a significant development, the military chiefs of India and Pakistan engaged in a hotline conversation for the first time since the ceasefire agreement. This communication happened around 5 p.m. on Monday, aiming to explore methods for reinstating tranquility along the border, as stated by an official.
Official reports indicate that Pakistan is committed to not escalating this conflict and has expressed its intent to adhere to the ceasefire.
The discussion between the Director Generals of Military Operations (DGMOs) focused on halting military activities and gunfire, based on the understanding reached after India’s anti-terror Operation Sindoor was suspended at Pakistan's request on May 10.
The Indian Army confirmed the talks between the two DGMOs, with India's DGMO, Lieutenant General Rajiv Ghai, and Pakistan's DGMO, Major General Kashif Abdullah, participating in this significant military-level dialogue.
During their hotline discussion, both sides also deliberated on measures to maintain restraint and uphold the agreement to cease firing while reviewing the ongoing situation.
The ceasefire agreement, signed in 2021, was established to ensure peace and stability along the Line of Control by the DGMOs of both nations.
Earlier in the day, there were speculations regarding a delay in the hotline discussion between the two DGMOs. It was initially scheduled for Monday noon following the ceasefire understanding reached on May 10.
In a high-level briefing, senior military officials provided an overview of India's robust defense strategies and readiness during and after Operation Sindoor. Lt Gen Rajiv Ghai, along with Air Marshal A.K. Bharti and Vice Admiral A.N. Pramod, discussed the coordinated defense efforts among the Indian Army, Air Force, and Navy, presenting a defense posture that was both calculated and formidable.
Lt Gen Ghai emphasized that India did not violate the Line of Control (LoC) or the International Border (IB) during its operations, stating, “All defensive measures were executed from within Indian territory,” countering any speculation of escalation.
