Mumbai, March 2 (NationPress) - With the effective policies of the Modi government acting as a catalyst for entrepreneurs and innovators to harness the new digital wave, India stands ready to lead in the era of artificial intelligence (AI), stated Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal.

“I am optimistic that Mumbai can evolve into India's technology hub, thanks to the significant investments being made in essential infrastructure, capital, and skill development,” he added during his remarks at the Mumbai Tech Week 2025.

The Minister noted that India's financial capital possesses all the necessary elements to emerge as a prominent tech center.

“I had a fruitful discussion at the Mumbai Tech Week 2025, where I elaborated on India's immense potential in adopting AI and promoting its ethical implementation,” the Minister shared on X.

India is carving out a leadership role in the AI adoption space, having registered three billion AI-related app downloads in 2024, surpassing the US'sChina's 1.3 billion.

As per Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, this positions India as the “use case capital of AI,” indicating that the nation is not merely discussing AI or conducting research but is actively implementing it on a grand scale.

At the AI Action Summit in Paris last month, which India co-chaired with France, Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized that AI is not solely a national issue but a global obligation. He stressed the necessity for ethical, inclusive, and trustworthy AI.

During his address, PM Modi highlighted that the world is on the cusp of the AI era, where this technology is rapidly scripting the future of humanity and transforming “our polity, economy, security, and society”.

He noted that AI differs significantly from previous technological milestones in terms of its impact and called for collaborative global efforts to create governance and standards that uphold shared values, mitigate risks, and foster trust. He added that governance should not only focus on risk management but also encourage innovation for the common good.

In this context, he advocated for universal access to AI, particularly for the Global South. He urged the democratization of technology and its people-centric applications to make the Sustainable Development Goals achievable. Referring to the success of the India-France sustainability partnership through initiatives like the International Solar Alliance, the PM expressed that it was only fitting for both nations to collaborate on an innovation partnership for a smart and responsible future.

The Prime Minister also underscored India's achievements in establishing a Digital Public Infrastructure for its 1.4 billion citizens based on open and accessible technology. Discussing India's AI Mission, he mentioned that, given its diversity, India is developing its own Large Language Model for AI. He affirmed that India is prepared to share its expertise to ensure that the advantages of AI reach everyone. Furthermore, the Prime Minister announced that India will host the next AI Summit.
