New Delhi, Aug 19 (NationPress) India Post has officially embarked on a groundbreaking journey of digital innovation with the comprehensive launch of IT 2.0 -- Advanced Postal Technology (APT).
This initiative, inspired by the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and overseen by Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, marks a significant milestone in the organization's commitment to Digital India.
The state-of-the-art postal technology platform aims to deliver faster, more dependable, and customer-centric postal and financial services to approximately 1.65 lakh post offices across the nation.
Engineered locally by the Centre for Excellence in Postal Technology, this system operates on the government’s MeghRaj 2.0 cloud and is bolstered by BSNL’s nationwide connectivity.
Scindia emphasized that this project will revolutionize India Post into a world-class public logistics organization.
He characterized it as a prime example of Aatmanirbhar Bharat in action, showcasing India’s self-sufficiency in developing cutting-edge technological solutions.
The new platform introduces numerous next-generation features, such as a unified interface, QR-code-based payments, OTP-based delivery, and a 10-digit alphanumeric DIGIPIN for enhanced accuracy.
Additionally, it provides comprehensive digital solutions from booking to delivery, ensuring improved efficiency and stronger rural connectivity through an open network system.
The phased rollout commenced with a pilot program in the Karnataka Postal Circle during May–June 2025.
After refining the platform based on initial insights, the project expanded nationwide, encompassing all 23 postal circles by August 4.
Currently, over 1.70 lakh offices, including post offices, mail offices, and administrative units, are operational on the APT system.
To facilitate this transformation, India Post has equipped over 4.6 lakh employees through a cascade training model, ensuring seamless adaptation at every level.
The system has already demonstrated its capacity and reliability by managing over 32 lakh bookings and 37 lakh deliveries in a single day.
With IT 2.0 now in full swing, India Post has reaffirmed its status as a modern, technology-driven service provider while maintaining its legacy of trust and extensive reach.
Officials noted that the new platform will help bridge the rural-urban digital divide, foster financial inclusion, and provide world-class services to all citizens.
