New Delhi, Dec 17 (NationPress) The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has summoned the Bangladesh High Commissioner to India, Riaz Hamidullah, to express New Delhi's serious concerns regarding the worsening security landscape in Bangladesh.
The MEA specifically highlighted the actions of certain extremist factions who have declared their intention to create a precarious situation surrounding the Indian mission in Dhaka.
India firmly dismissed the misleading narrative propagated by these extremist elements concerning recent developments in Bangladesh.
The MEA conveyed its alarm that the interim government led by Mohammad Yunus has failed to conduct a comprehensive investigation or provide substantial evidence to India pertaining to these incidents.
“India enjoys a close and amicable relationship with the people of Bangladesh, rooted in the shared struggle for liberation and bolstered through numerous developmental and interpersonal initiatives. We advocate for peace and stability in Bangladesh and have consistently urged for free, fair, inclusive, and credible elections to be conducted in a peaceful setting,” the MEA's statement outlined.
India called on the Yunus-led interim administration to safeguard Indian missions and establishments in Bangladesh in alignment with its diplomatic responsibilities.
Earlier, on Sunday, India rejected claims made by the Yunus-led interim government, asserting its ongoing support for the conduct of fair, free, inclusive, and credible elections in the neighboring country amidst a peaceful backdrop.
The MEA reiterated that India has never allowed its territory to be utilized for actions detrimental to the interests of the Bangladeshi populace.
“India categorically denies the claims made by the interim Government of Bangladesh in its press release dated December 14, 2025. We have consistently reiterated our advocacy for free, fair, inclusive, and credible elections to occur in Bangladesh within a peaceful environment,” stated the MEA.
“India has never permitted its territory to be a platform for activities adverse to the interests of the friendly people of Bangladesh. We anticipate that the interim Government of Bangladesh will implement all necessary measures to ensure internal law and order, especially in the context of conducting peaceful elections,” it added.
