New Delhi, Feb 9 (NationPress) President of Seychelles, Patrick Herminie, stated on Monday that as prominent Indian Ocean nations, the significance of maritime security and regional stability remains pivotal in the relationship between India and Seychelles.
"Our conversations prominently featured economic engagement and development support. We explored strategies to propel priority initiatives through suitable development cooperation mechanisms, such as project-based assistance and credit lines. As Indian Ocean states, our bond is fundamentally rooted in maritime security and regional stability," Herminie remarked during a joint press conference with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi after their discussions.
Herminie expressed optimism that his visit to India would solidify bilateral relations and yield tangible benefits for the citizens of both nations.
He emphasized that the partnership between India and Seychelles in maritime surveillance, security, and defense capacity development continues to be crucial in combating transnational crime, piracy, and other maritime threats.
"Prime Minister Modi and I reiterated our collective duty to foster safety, stability, and lawful operations in the western Indian Ocean. Our cooperation in maritime surveillance, security, and defense capacity development remains essential in addressing issues like transnational crime and piracy while ensuring the protection of vital interests," Herminie highlighted.
"We also discussed infrastructure development and investment facilitation as fundamental drivers of economic resilience and inclusive growth. Emphasis was placed on sustainable transportation and climate-resilient infrastructure, including electric mobility solutions and cleaner public transit systems," the visiting President elaborated.
Reflecting on his trip to India, which symbolizes the enduring friendship and mutual respect between the two nations, Herminie invited Prime Minister Modi to participate as a Guest of Honour in Seychelles' 50th independence anniversary celebrations.
"This visit underscores the long-standing camaraderie and mutual respect that have characterized Seychelles-India relations, especially as we approach a significant milestone this year. In June, Seychelles and India will celebrate the golden jubilee of their diplomatic ties, coinciding with Seychelles' 50th independence anniversary, with Mr. Modi invited as a Guest of Honour. This convergence presents a chance not only to reflect on our shared journey but also to shape the future of our partnership," he stated.
Herminie noted that he and PM Modi undertook a thorough review of Seychelles-India relations during their discussions, reaffirming their mutual commitment to fostering a practical and forward-looking partnership centered on tangible benefits for the citizens of both nations.
"We exchanged insights on our collective vision for cooperation over the next five years, pinpointing priority areas and ensuring that our bilateral engagement remains relevant and aligned with national development goals," Herminie concluded.
