The discussions also focused on identifying ways to strengthen current collaboration, particularly in the domains of training, capability building, industry, and technology.
The meeting was co-chaired by Amitabh Prasad, Joint Secretary (International Cooperation) from the Defence Ministry, and Col Daxson Yap, Director of the Policy Office at Singapore's Ministry of Defence, according to a statement from the Defence Ministry.
The attendees reviewed the advancements in implementing the decisions made during the previous Defence Ministers’ Dialogue and various bilateral defence cooperation initiatives.
This meeting also served as a platform to share defence insights and to expedite initiatives covering the full range of multifaceted bilateral defence engagements and the regional security framework.
The discussions were informed by the recent Joint Statement on the Roadmap for the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between India and Singapore, which was released after a meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong in New Delhi.
The Defence Ministry's statement indicated that both parties expressed satisfaction with ongoing defence collaboration and elaborated on steps towards emerging areas of cooperation and global commons challenges.
With 2025 marking the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Singapore, both co-chairs agreed to intensify defence collaboration.
This meeting is particularly significant in light of India’s Act East policy, where Singapore plays a crucial role in fostering economic cooperation, cultural ties, and strategic connectivity with regional countries.
On the sidelines of the event, the Joint Secretary also met with Deputy Secretary Policy BG Fredrick Choo. Additionally, he visited the Information Fusion Centre and the ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting Cyber Security and Information Centre of Excellence at Changi Naval Base during the visit.
