New Delhi, Feb 16 (NationPress) Singapore's Prime Minister Lawrence Wong emphasized the potential for enhanced cooperation in skills training and the digital economy to strengthen economic relations between India and Singapore during talks with a CII delegation.
The delegation, led by N. Chandrasekaran, Executive Chairman of Tata Sons, met with PM Wong and other notable Singaporean officials, including President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan, Minister for Transport Chee Hong Tat, and Minister for Manpower Dr Tan See Leng during their visit to Singapore on February 14.
These meetings resulted in a set of actionable strategies, which will be pursued through organized dialogues between industry and government, as stated in a CII release on Sunday.
CII, which has maintained an office in Singapore since 1992, will actively pursue the expansion of talent exchanges via the India Ready Talent Programme. This initiative, a collaboration between CII and Enterprise Singapore, offers Singaporean students internship opportunities in India. Further efforts will focus on advancing skilling initiatives, developing industrial parks, creating AI-driven solutions, and enhancing investments in sustainability projects.
The CII delegation also interacted with Enterprise Singapore (EnterpriseSG) and prominent Singaporean CEOs, seeking opportunities for stronger business-to-business collaborations and industry partnerships.
This visit is particularly noteworthy as India and Singapore commemorate 60 years of diplomatic relations. As both countries continue to amplify their global economic presence, this partnership is set to become a model for regional economic integration, ensuring that India and Singapore remain vital allies in shaping the future of global trade, technology, and sustainable development, according to the CII statement.
Shilpak Ambule, the High Commissioner of India to Singapore, was also present in all meetings held by the CII with Singaporean leaders.
Founded in 1993, the CII Core Group on Singapore consists of senior Indian industry leaders dedicated to boosting economic cooperation and fostering closer ties between India and Singapore. The group organizes annual visits to facilitate strategic discussions on global economic trends, investment opportunities, and sectoral partnerships.
