New Delhi, Nov 7 (NationPress) Reaffirming India’s dedication to fortifying bilateral relations with Algeria, Neena Malhotra, the Secretary for the South in the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), graced the 71st Revolution Day celebration of the North African nation.
During the event held at the Algerian Embassy, she conveyed warm wishes on behalf of the Indian government to the Algerian authorities and its citizens.
On social media platform X, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal mentioned: "Secretary (South) Neena Malhotra participated in the 71st Revolution Day celebration at the Algerian Embassy in New Delhi. She expressed the Government of India's heartfelt congratulations to the Algerian government and its people, reaffirming our resolve to deepen this partnership."
Revolution Day in Algeria marks the commencement of its significant war of independence against French colonial rule, which began on November 1, 1954, with coordinated assaults by the Algerian National Liberation Front (FLN) on French military and police installations. This conflict lasted eight years and culminated in Algeria's independence on July 5, 1962.
The MEA notes that diplomatic relations between India and Algeria were established in July 1962, coinciding with Algeria's independence from colonial rule. Since then, both nations have maintained a friendly relationship, with India actively supporting the Algerian liberation movement since its inception.
Earlier this August, India and Algeria made significant strides in enhancing their defence cooperation during the official visit of Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Upendra Dwivedi to Algeria, promoting the essence of South–South cooperation.
This visit strengthened recent high-level interactions between the two nations and concentrated on boosting army-to-army relations and capability enhancement, including training initiatives.
As India broadens its strategic influence across Africa, this high-level military collaboration with Algeria is viewed as a vital step toward reinforcing India’s partnerships in the region, particularly in response to evolving security challenges and the necessity for multilateral defence cooperation.
