New Delhi, June 24 (NationPress) The Indian Air Force (IAF) successfully evacuated 165 Indian nationals from Israel as part of Operation Sindhu, as announced by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).
Utilizing its C-17 aircraft, the IAF facilitated the safe return of Indian citizens and nationals from friendly nations, including Nepal and Sri Lanka, from the conflict-ridden region of Israel.
The MEA shared on X, “Operation Sindhu: An IAF C-17 flight successfully brought back 165 Indian nationals from Israel. They were warmly welcomed by MoS Dr. L. Murugan upon their arrival in Delhi at 0845 hrs on June 24 from Amman.
The Air Force highlighted on social media that in response to escalating tensions in West Asia, the IAF’s C-17 aircraft began missions from Jordan and Egypt to assist Indian nationals and friendly country citizens. The IAF is dedicated to being a first responder, providing aid both domestically and internationally during crises.
Earlier that day, prior to the IAF flight landing in India, the MEA announced the commencement of the Israel segment of Operation Sindhu on June 23, with the first successful repatriation flight returning 161 citizens to New Delhi from Amman on Tuesday morning.
Union Minister of State for External Affairs Pabitra Margherita personally received the group at the airport.
In a statement to IANS, he expressed, “I am delighted to welcome the first batch of 161 Indian nationals evacuated from Israel. They have safely arrived just moments ago at New Delhi airport.”
“We are vigilantly monitoring the situation and are committed to providing all essential assistance to our citizens in Iran and Israel. Under Operation Sindhu, all nationals are safely returning,” the MoS emphasized.
Meanwhile, a similar evacuation effort is ongoing in Iran, where the MEA reports that a total of 2,290 Indian nationals have been successfully repatriated.
