Mangaluru, Nov 13 (NationPress) Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi stated that India’s maritime sector is experiencing rapid growth, with the nation anticipated to rank among the world’s top 10 shipbuilding countries by 2030.
During the Golden Jubilee celebrations at the New Mangalore Port Authority on Thursday, Joshi conveyed his optimism that India will be among the top five global economies by 2047, under the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“With the guidance and support of Prime Minister Modi, India’s shipbuilding capacity has significantly improved. Our production capabilities have also expanded alongside service activities,” Joshi remarked.
He highlighted the crucial role of the port sector in enhancing India’s exports. To foster export activities and improve trade efficiency, the Central Government is focused on minimizing logistics costs, he noted.
The New Mangalore Port, located on India’s west coast, is one of Karnataka’s key ports and ranks as the seventh largest in the nation. “It has uniquely contributed to India’s economic growth, maritime trade, and the industrial advancement of southern India,” Joshi emphasized.
India has made remarkable strides in maritime trade through port modernization, better coastal connectivity, and attracting global investments.
“These initiatives have established India as a formidable hub in the global maritime economy,” he stated.
“With Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, India has become the world’s fourth-largest economy and is on track to soon be the third-largest. Competing with major powers like the United States and China, India is making notable progress in enhancing manufacturing and exports,” Joshi indicated.
Union Minister for Ports, Shipping, and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal, who chaired the event, mentioned that the New Mangalore Port Authority (NMPA) is projected to manage 100 million tonnes of cargo in the next 22 years.
“It is Prime Minister Modi’s vision that by 2047, Indian ports should handle 10,000 million metric tonnes of cargo. We are confident in achieving this goal under his leadership,” Sonowal expressed.
He also pointed out that NMPA has attained the status of being a 100% solar-powered and green port.
“Several cutting-edge technological initiatives have been implemented, including robotic firefighting systems and drone surveillance of the port,” he added.
