New Delhi, June 4 (NationPress) The production of key minerals in India has shown remarkable growth during FY 2025-26, following record levels achieved in FY 2024-25.

The output of iron ore, which constitutes 70% of the total mineral production value, increased to 289 million metric tonnes (MMT) in FY 2024-25, surpassing the previous record of 277 MMT set in FY 2023-24, marking a growth of 4.3%.

According to provisional data for April in FY 2025-26, there has been a consistent rise in mineral production compared to the same month last year.

The production of bauxite surged by a significant 13.9% from 1.87 MMT in April 2024 to 2.13 MMT in April 2025.

Meanwhile, limestone production increased by 1.2% from 39.58 MMT in April 2024 to 40.5 MMT in April 2025. Production of lead & zinc ore rose from 1.24 MMT in April 2024 to 1.27 MMT in April 2025, reflecting a growth of 2.4%.

Additionally, zinc concentrate production jumped by 7.7% from 0.13 MMT in April 2024 to 0.14 MMT in April 2025.

In the non-ferrous metal sector, primary aluminium production experienced a 1.5% increase in FY 2025-26, growing to 3.47 lakh tons (LT) in April 2025 from 3.42 LT in April 2024. Similarly, refined copper production saw a significant growth of 15.6%, rising from 0.45 LT to 0.52 LT.

As the second-largest producer of aluminium and a top-10 producer in refined copper, India's ongoing growth in these areas indicates sustained economic activity in sectors such as energy, infrastructure, construction, automotive, and machinery, according to the official statement.

Notably, minerals like iron ore, manganese ore, and zinc concentrate experienced significant production increases in March 2025 compared to March 2024. Iron ore production rose by 5.7% to 25.9 MMT, while manganese ore production grew by 9.7% to 0.39 MMT. Similarly, zinc concentrate production increased by 5.5% to 0.19 MMT in March 2025 compared to the previous year.
