Indo-French Investment Conclave in Bhopal on May 12: Key sectors and firms
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
The Indo-French Investment Conclave is set to be held in Bhopal on 12 May 2025, bringing together French companies, diplomats, and Madhya Pradesh government officials to strengthen industrial and technological cooperation and position the state as a preferred destination for French investment.
Venue and Key Participants
The conclave will be organised at the Kushabhau Thakre International Convention Centre in Bhopal, and is being jointly hosted by the Indo-French Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Madhya Pradesh government. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav will address the main session. The French Ambassador to India, representatives of French companies, senior industry executives, and state government officials are all expected to attend. Around 60–80 industrial representatives from across Madhya Pradesh are likely to participate.
Focus Sectors
Discussions during the conclave will cover a broad range of sectors including agro and food processing, automobile and electric vehicles, defence and aviation, pharmaceuticals and medical devices, renewable energy, textiles, and tourism and hospitality. The government said the event will facilitate both business-to-business and business-to-government meetings to explore investment opportunities and technical collaborations.
French Firms Already Showing Interest
Several French companies have reportedly already signalled interest in the state ahead of the conclave. Sanofi is in discussions for a Centre of Excellence with the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Bhopal, while Dassault Systèmes is exploring cooperation in urban planning, technical education, and skill development. Sports retailer Decathlon has shown interest in sourcing and retail expansion, and infrastructure consultancy Systra is examining opportunities in metro rail, roads, railways, water management, and urban planning. Other companies expected to participate include EDF, ENGIE, Lactalis, and Geodis India.
Broader Strategic Context
According to the Madhya Pradesh government, the conclave is also intended to support preparations for the proposed Global Investors Summit-2027, signalling that this bilateral engagement is part of a longer-term investment mobilisation strategy. This comes amid a broader push by Indian states to court European investment as global supply chains are being restructured. Notably, the French delegation visited the Madhya Pradesh Tribal Museum on Sunday and was scheduled to visit the Bhimbetka Rock Shelters on Monday, underscoring the cultural diplomacy dimension of the visit.
The conclave marks a significant step in deepening India-France bilateral economic ties at the sub-national level, with Madhya Pradesh positioning itself as a gateway for French industry into central India's growing markets.
