Indore, April 6 (NationPress) All 12 members of a family who suffered injuries in a lift accident at a factory in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, while attending a wedding celebration, are now out of danger.

The police reported that the incident took place in the Chandan Nagar area on Sunday. "A case has been registered against the event organizer under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Samhita, and the investigation is ongoing. Thankfully, all individuals trapped in the lift are currently safe and receiving medical care," officials stated.

The joyous occasion turned into a scene of panic and chaos when an overloaded lift within the factory suddenly malfunctioned and fell, injuring 12 attendees—predominantly women and children—who were present for the wedding.

This unfortunate event occurred in the Rajkumar Bank vicinity under the jurisdiction of the Chandan Nagar police station. The victims had ascended to the second floor to greet the bride, and while descending, approximately 12 people entered the lift together. The lift collapsed due to excessive weight, resulting in screams and widespread panic. The injured have been identified as Ashma B, Asham, Shahnaz B, Najma B, 12-year-old Mantesh, Arshil, Zainab, Afsana, Nikhat, Fatima, Nargis, and Amira.

They were promptly transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Blood traces were discovered inside the damaged lift, suggesting the seriousness of the incident. Initial police investigations indicate gross negligence.

According to a senior police official from the Chandan Nagar police station, "The lift was intended solely for transporting goods, not for people. Yet, it was routinely utilized by guests to navigate the factory during the wedding event."

The police have formally registered a case and are conducting a thorough investigation.

"It is evident that the lift was designed for goods transportation, but it was misappropriated for human use. Overloading was a direct cause, but the underlying issue seems to be a blatant disregard for safety regulations. The police have gathered statements from the injured and witnesses. Action will be pursued against those accountable for permitting such hazardous lift usage," stated Tilak Karole, TI of Chandan Nagar, in an interview with IANS.

Initially, family members were in shock and didn't disclose the precise cause of the incident. It was only when medical staff observed multiple patients with similar injuries at once that the lift failure was uncovered.

The hospital subsequently alerted the police, who then arrived at the scene.

Authorities are currently reviewing the lift's maintenance records, the factory owner's details, and the presence of any safety certifications.

Officials have indicated that charges related to negligence and endangerment of lives will be filed. Ongoing investigations aim to assess whether mechanical failure or lack of maintenance contributed to the incident. The condition of the injured individuals is reported to be stable, although some are under observation for potential fractures.
