Bhopal, Jan 3 (NationPress) The Congress party intensified its criticism of the Madhya Pradesh government on Saturday regarding the Indore water contamination crisis that has tragically led to multiple fatalities. Senior Congress figure Digvijaya Singh pointed fingers at the city Mayor, claiming accountability for the disaster.
Singh, who previously served as Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, asserted that the Mayor of Indore and a local BJP politician were key players in this unfortunate event.
Expressing sorrow for the loss of lives, he urged for accountability and punishment for all those involved, including high-ranking officials, the Mayor, and other local representatives.
"The situation in Indore is utterly unacceptable. Those implicated must face strict consequences. The behavior exhibited by the Indore Mayor and local officials is profoundly troubling," Singh remarked during a media briefing in Bhopal.
On the previous day, another prominent Congress member and Rajya Sabha MP, Vivek Tankha, accused the Madhya Pradesh government of concealing the realities surrounding the tragic incident that resulted in numerous deaths in Indore.
Political leaders from various parties have raised concerns over the Madhya Pradesh government’s handling of the situation, especially as the number of people suffering from diarrhoea in the Bhagirathpura area of Indore has been climbing.
For instance, veteran BJP leader and former Chief Minister Uma Bharti criticized Chief Minister Mohan, stating that it is a critical moment for him.
Bharti labeled the dire circumstances as a source of shame for the state and emphasized the challenge it presents for Chief Minister Mohan Yadav’s leadership.
In a series of social media updates, the former Union Minister for Water Resources stated that the deaths resulting from contaminated water have humiliated our state, our governance, and our entire system.
In response, the Indore district administration initiated a survey on Saturday to evaluate the quality of water being delivered via tankers in the Bhagirathpura area, where contaminated water has resulted in multiple fatalities over the past week, with over 200 individuals currently hospitalized.
In addition to the water quality checks, district administration teams are educating the residents of Bhagirathpura about the importance of using safe drinking water to protect the health of the community, particularly vulnerable groups like children and the elderly.
The awareness initiative and inspection, led by Indore District Collector Shivam Verma, commenced early Saturday morning and will extend through the evening. Officials are also examining water stored in underground and rooftop tanks within the community.
In a statement to IANS, Collector Shivam Verma mentioned that several teams have been organized to carry out comprehensive inspections in Bhagirathpura.
Close monitoring is being executed at locations where a significant number of people were affected.
"Our teams are consistently investigating. In areas where food poisoning cases have occurred and patients have tested positive, we have instructed all departments to conduct thorough inspections. Additionally, our water supply lines are under scrutiny," Collector Verma informed IANS.
