Indore, Dec 31 (NationPress) To enhance collaboration between the administration and healthcare facilities in addressing the needs of those impacted by the suspected contaminated water crisis in Bhagirathpura, the Madhya Pradesh government has appointed more than two dozen administrative and revenue officials as of Wednesday.
A notification released on Wednesday indicated that 14 Tehsildars have been designated to facilitate improved communication between hospitals and the health department. Furthermore, 10 Patwaris have also been appointed.
More than 100 individuals have fallen ill due to contaminated water consumption, receiving treatment across over 15 hospitals in Indore, including private healthcare institutions. Each hospital has been assigned a dedicated administrative (Tehsildar) official.
The death toll from this incident has reached eight. Indore Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargava informed the media that 36 individuals have been discharged from care.
"The health department will provide its official statistics later. Currently, 36 patients have been released from hospitals, and over 116 individuals are reported ill," stated Bhargava on Wednesday.
Chief Minister Mohan Yadav expressed his sorrow regarding the situation, honoring the deceased and wishing a swift recovery for those in treatment. He has also mandated stringent action against officials deemed responsible for the situation.
In response to these directives, two officials—Zonal Officer Shaligram Sitole and Assistant Engineer Yogesh Joshi—have been suspended, while In-charge Sub-Engineer (PHE) Shubham Shrivastava has been terminated from service, as confirmed by Indore Collector Shivam Verma on Wednesday.
Moreover, a three-member committee has been established to thoroughly investigate the incident, led by IAS officer Navjeevan Panwar. The committee includes Superintendent Engineer Pradeep Nigam and Dr. Shailesh Rai, an Associate Professor from Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College, Indore (MGM Medical College).
