New Delhi, Feb 7 (NationPress) The prominent IT firm Infosys has dismissed approximately 700 fresh graduates from its Mysuru campus, according to a statement from the IT employees' union Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES) on Friday.

The union reported that these freshers were terminated after being employed for only a few months.

Additionally, the laid-off freshers are reportedly required to sign confidentiality agreements, which NITES suggests could be an effort to conceal the circumstances surrounding the layoffs.

"In an alarming and unethical action, Infosys has started to forcibly terminate around 700 campus recruits who were hired just months ago," said Harpreet Singh Saluja, president of NITES, in an official statement.

NITES has accused the company of employing bouncers and security personnel during the termination process to intimidate the employees.

This was allegedly done to prevent employees from carrying mobile phones and documenting the incident or seeking assistance, Saluja stated.

The union has raised alarms about the suddenness of these dismissals and their impact on the affected workers.

On the other hand, Infosys defended its actions by stating that the freshers who were let go did not pass multiple internal assessments that form part of the onboarding process.

"Every fresher is given three attempts to pass the assessment, and failure to do so results in termination, as specified in their contracts. This policy has been in effect for over twenty years," the IT giant stated.

The company asserted that these practices are crucial for ensuring that only those meeting the necessary criteria remain employed.

Meanwhile, NITES announced it will file a formal complaint with the Ministry of Labour and Employment, seeking immediate intervention and stringent action against Infosys.

“This overt corporate exploitation cannot persist, and we call upon the government to act swiftly to protect the rights and dignity of Indian IT professionals,” stated Saluja.
