New Delhi, Dec 24 (NationPress) In a remarkable achievement, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) successfully executed the launch of the LVM3-M6 rocket on Wednesday, delivering the next-generation BlueBird Block-2 communication satellite from the United States into orbit.

“Mission Accomplished. The LVM3-M6 mission has effectively inserted the BlueBird Block-2 satellite into its designated orbit,” stated ISRO in an X post.

The communication satellite, which weighs 6,100 kg, sets a record as the heaviest payload ever placed into Low Earth Orbit (LEO) in the history of LVM3 launches. The previous record was held by the LVM3-M5 Communication Satellite 03, which weighed approximately 4,400 kg and was launched by ISRO on November 2 into Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit (GTO).

This satellite is a part of the next generation of BlueBird Block-2 communication satellites, engineered to offer space-based cellular broadband directly to conventional mobile smartphones.

This mission signifies the sixth operational flight of the LVM3 launch vehicle and marks a substantial advancement in telecommunications technology, as the significant 6,100 kg payload is crafted to deliver high-speed 4G and 5G connectivity straight to smartphones.

“Congratulations to Team ISRO for successfully launching the LVM3-M6 with the BlueBird Block-2. Under the visionary guidance of PM Narendra Modi, ISRO continues to achieve successive milestones, underscoring India’s expanding capabilities in space technology,” remarked Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh in an X post.

The BlueBird communications satellite, developed by the US-based AST SpaceMobile, was launched aboard India’s most powerful rocket, the LVM3. It is among the heaviest commercial satellites, weighing 6.5 tonnes. The satellite reached India from the US on October 19.

This event marks the second collaboration between the US and ISRO. Previously, in July, ISRO successfully launched the $1.5 billion NASA-ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar Mission (NISAR), designed for high-resolution Earth scanning capable of penetrating fog, dense clouds, and ice.

AST SpaceMobile has already deployed five satellites -- BlueBird 1 to 5 -- in September 2024. To further expand this network, the company has partnered with over 50 mobile operators across the globe.

Point of View

I believe this successful launch by ISRO not only highlights India's advancements in space technology but also reflects the collaborative spirit in international space endeavors. The launch of the BlueBird Block-2 satellite is a testament to India's growing influence in the global space sector and its commitment to technological advancements.
