Kolkata, Sep 13 (NationPress) In response to the unfortunate passing of a third-year female student on campus, the administration of Jadavpur University has implemented stringent security measures and established numerous restrictions for both students and visitors.
A circular released late Friday night outlines the new prohibitions, including a ban on trespassing, morning and evening walks, as well as the consumption of narcotics and alcohol on university grounds. Entry without valid identification is also forbidden.
"This is to inform all concerned that due to the incident that took place on 11.09.2025, we request everyone to adhere strictly to the guidelines outlined herein and previously circulated on 18.03.2025," states the circular.
As part of the new regulations, vehicles entering the university must display JU parking stickers prominently. Those without stickers must provide their vehicle registration numbers at the university gates, where security personnel will document this information. Valid ID cards for both drivers and passengers must be presented upon request.
In a firm stance against substance abuse, the circular emphasizes, "The use of narcotics, alcohol, or any illegal substances is strictly forbidden on campus. Violators will face prosecution under the law."
The document also states that trespassing, which includes morning and evening walks, is not allowed. Individuals wishing to enter the campus between 7:00 PM and 7:00 AM must carry valid identification issued by Jadavpur University, which must be shown at the gates when requested.
For those without a university-issued ID, the circular mandates that they provide an alternative form of identification and register the details of the person they intend to visit, along with a contact number, in a log maintained at the gate.
It’s worth noting that similar guidelines have been issued in the past but have gone largely disregarded by students.
This decision follows the recovery of a female student’s body under mysterious circumstances beside a water body on campus late Thursday night.
The victim, a third-year student studying English Literature, was found shortly after 10 PM, coinciding with a cultural program held by members of the Students’ Federation of India (SFI), the students' wing of the CPI(M).
Although the cultural program was halted upon learning of the incident, concerns have arisen regarding the authorization for the event to proceed past 10 PM.
After being discovered unresponsive, she was rushed to K.P.C. Medical College & Hospital, where she was declared dead.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the academic community at this premier institute in West Bengal.
Recently, Jadavpur University was recognized as the top-ranked state university in India, according to the National Institutional Ranking Framework 2025, released by the Union Ministry of Education, and has also secured the ninth position in the overall university category, earning accolades from various sectors.
