Amaravati, April 21 (NationPress) Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh and president of the YSR Congress Party, claimed on Tuesday that the support for the rural economy is declining under the rule of Chandrababu Naidu's Telugu Desam Party-led coalition. He pointed out that the implementation of the rural employment guarantee scheme, MGNREGA, has experienced a significant reduction over the past two years.
In a statement on ‘X’, the former Chief Minister referenced statistics from MGNREGA as reported by the Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India.
“From the viewpoint of the rural economy, the effective execution of MGNREGA is crucial. This scheme plays a pivotal role in boosting disposable incomes in rural areas, where the marginal propensity to consume is at its highest, thus fostering rural consumption. Historically, Andhra Pradesh (AP) has been recognized as one of the top-performing states in the implementation of MGNREGA,” noted the YSRCP leader.
“During the past two years of the TDP-led Government, we have observed the State's performance in this regard deteriorating. On various metrics, including the approved labour budget, total households employed, and overall expenditure, the data reveals a downward trend. This is further indicated by the low growth rates in GST and sales tax over the last two years, reflecting diminished purchasing power and a resultant drop in demand,” he stated.
“The TDP-led Government seems to be more focused on corruption driven by an insatiable desire for wealth, neglecting the pressing issues faced by the people of our State,” he added.
In other news, the former Chief Minister is set to commence a three-day visit to Pulivendula, the Assembly constituency he represents in YSR Kadapa district.
According to his itinerary, he will arrive in Pulivendula at 4 P.M. on April 21 and hold a Praja Darbar at the Bhakarapuram camp office, followed by an overnight stay.
On April 22, he will depart at 9 A.M. to visit Ippatla village in Lingala mandal to offer condolences to the family of the late YSRCP leader Sudhakar Reddy, and will then return to the Pulivendula camp office for another Praja Darbar, where he will stay overnight. He will conclude his visit the following day.
