Bhubaneswar, Aug 1 (NationPress) The Odisha Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan revealed on Friday that the long-awaited inventory of treasures in the Ratna Bhandar (treasure chamber) of the Jagannath Temple in Puri is set to commence soon.
He mentioned that the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has appointed two officials whose presence is crucial during the inventory of the temple's ornaments and valuables. The preparations for this process are now in their final stages.
A Temple Management Committee will also be established in the near future.
This committee will determine the timeline for the inventory process.
"In response to our correspondence, the RBI has assigned two experts for the inventory of the valuables held in Ratna Bhandar. We have received a formal letter from the RBI regarding this. The temple management committee will be formed shortly. Subsequently, with the sanction of the management committee, a high-level committee will initiate the shifting of jewelry and ornaments into Ratna Bhandar. Once the valuables are relocated, we will notify the inventory date to the RBI-nominated experts," stated the Law Minister.
Minister Harichandan affirmed that the state government is taking rapid steps to ensure that the inventory is conducted in a transparent and organized manner.
Importantly, the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) team recently completed a comprehensive repair and restoration of the Ratna Bhandar of the 12th-century shrine in Puri within 95 days, dedicating approximately 333 hours in July.
A total of 520 stones, identified as damaged during laser scanning, were replaced during the restoration of Ratna Bhandar.
The floors have been upgraded with granite stones. Additionally, the ASI incorporated 15 stainless steel beams during the restoration of both the inner and outer chambers of Ratna Bhandar.
The first phase of the repair and restoration work spanned from December 17, 2024, to April 28, 2025. Renovation work recommenced on June 28 this year and concluded in July.
The valuables stored in the inner and outer chambers of Ratna Bhandar have been moved to temporary rooms within the temple premises.
