New Delhi, Oct 15 (NationPress) In a significant move to expedite the registration of Waqf properties on the government’s “Umeed Portal”, a Waqf Help Desk (backend support system) was launched at the Jamaat-e-Islami Hind headquarters on Wednesday. This Help Desk aims to assist mutawallis (managers of Waqf properties), mosque imams, and religious institution administrators in navigating the registration process.
The inauguration was officiated by Syed Sadatullah Husaini, the President of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind. In his opening remarks, Husaini stated that “the protection of Waqf properties poses a significant challenge for the entire Muslim community, and it is imperative that we confront this challenge with unity.”
The Waqf Department of Jamaat-e-Islami has been diligently working on this issue for an extended period, both at the national and state levels, where registration efforts are already underway, he noted.
Husaini emphasized the urgency of completing the registration of Waqf properties, stating that “the community has limited time and a vast responsibility ahead. Therefore, establishing similar Help Desks nationwide will be crucial to hasten the registration process.”
Referring to the Supreme Court’s interim order, he highlighted the necessity of uploading all Waqf property documents onto the WAMSI (Waqf Asset Management System of India) Portal to meet the stipulated deadline.
He further clarified that registration does not equate to relinquishing the fight against the unjust Waqf Amendment Act, asserting that “our legal battle against this oppressive law will persist alongside the registration efforts.”
Coordinator of the Centre, Inamur Rahman Khan, explained that documenting Waqf properties is challenging, and uploading this information on the Umeed Portal has proven to be difficult. The Help Desk is established to tackle these hurdles.
He mentioned that the desk will provide all essential services related to the registration process.
Jamaat-e-Islami Hind has made extensive organizational arrangements to facilitate the registration of Waqf properties, with Waqf Cells being set up at the state level to systematically manage the work.
Rahman also noted that a permanent helpline has been established under the Central Help Desk and State Waqf Cells, staffed with legal experts, Waqf specialists, and trained field operatives offering real-time assistance to those engaged on the ground.
During the event, participants were encouraged to focus on developing a robust network of volunteers and local monitoring committees.
On this occasion, Jamaat-e-Islami Hind also unveiled comprehensive guidelines for uploading Waqf properties onto the Umeed Portal. The inauguration ceremony was attended by numerous central leaders and activists of Jamaat.
