New Delhi, Feb 14 (NationPress) Reaffirming Prime Minister Narendra Modi's commitment to inclusivity and the establishment of a fairer and empowered society, Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Virendra Kumar on Friday presented Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) kits and Ayushman health cards to sewer workers in Jammu.
The kits were distributed to Sewer and Septic Tank Workers (SSWs) (also known as Safai Mitras) under the significant initiative of the National Action for Mechanized Sanitation Ecosystem (NAMASTE), as stated in an official release.
The NAMASTE program has been designed to promote dignity among Safai Karamcharis and to uplift them both socially and economically.
This initiative aims to guarantee the safety and dignity of sanitation workers across urban India, while enhancing their occupational safety through training and improved access to PPE kits, safety equipment, and machinery, as explained by the minister.
The PPE kits include a variety of protective gear and accessories tailored to protect individuals from possible health risks or infections.
Included in the kits are essential items such as masks, gloves, goggles, face shields, gowns, and shoe covers. These supplies are vital for safeguarding frontline workers, particularly those who face hazardous conditions or infectious diseases, such as sewer and septic tank workers.
The Ayushman health card serves as a form of identification provided under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY), a government-funded health insurance initiative in India, as per the statement.
This card grants beneficiaries access to cashless and paperless healthcare services at designated hospitals. It contains crucial information regarding the beneficiary, including their unique identification number and details of available healthcare services.
During his visit, the minister also toured the Outreach and Drop In Centre (ODIC), operated by the NGO JK Society for the Promotion of Youth and Masses in Jammu, as part of the National Action Plan for Drug Demand Reduction (NAPDDR).
This event underscored the government’s dedication to 'Vanchiton Ko Variyata', ensuring that individuals who have been historically marginalized receive the attention and support they merit.
This commitment to prioritizing the underprivileged aligns with the government’s broader vision of 'Viksit Bharat', where every person has the chance to participate in and benefit from India’s growth journey.
