Srinagar, May 9 (NationPress) The Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, asserted on Friday that the nation's armed forces are fully prepared to address any challenges that may arise.
During his visit to the border town of Uri, he engaged with Indian Army soldiers following a series of unsuccessful drone and missile assaults by Pakistan in the Jammu, Samba, Udhampur, and Srinagar regions of J&K.
In an uplifting interaction, Manoj Sinha inquired from the soldiers, “How is the Josh?,” receiving an enthusiastic affirmative response.
The LG shared on X, “An immense honor to be among the Bravest of the Brave, our heroes in Baramulla. They harbor a singular dream and determination: to neutralize the enemy and its capacity to threaten Bharat, ensuring the safety of our citizens and the sovereignty of our nation. Jai Hind ki sena!”
After his visit to Uri, LG Sinha informed reporters that Pakistan had made attempts to disrupt peace in India, but he reassured that the Indian armed forces are equipped to handle any scenario.
On Friday, alongside the Chief Secretary and DGP, he assessed the damage inflicted on civilian areas and residences due to unprovoked shelling by Pakistan in the border villages of Lagama and Gingal in Uri.
“I have instructed the district administration to provide immediate assistance to the affected families and ensure their safety,” LG Manoj Sinha stated following the visit.
“The J&K administration is making certain that residents do not face any hardships. I visited the border villages that suffered losses. The injured and the families of the deceased have been compensated.”
“We are currently evaluating the extent of damage and recognize the necessity for constructing new bunkers in these regions. New bunkers will be established in the coming days,” Manoj Sinha added.
On Thursday evening, Pakistan executed a coordinated attack involving low-range missiles and drones targeting Jammu, Samba, Udhampur, R.S. Pura, and Srinagar. However, the Indian armed forces' air defense systems successfully thwarted the entire operation.
After neutralizing the enemy's drones and missiles aimed at defense installations, there was an unsuccessful infiltration attempt by terrorists supported by Pakistani troops in J&K’s Samba district along the International Border.
A spokesperson for the BSF stated that a significant infiltration attempt from across the International Border was thwarted around 11 PM last night. “The intruding terrorists were compelled to retreat back into the Pakistani territory,” the spokesperson confirmed.
In a tragic incident, a woman lost her life and another was injured due to heavy mortar shelling by Pakistan in the civilian sectors of Uri, Baramulla district. Officials reported that a vehicle traveling from Razerwani to Baramulla was struck by a shell fired from across the LoC near Mohura, resulting in the death of Nargis Begum and injuries to Hafeeza Begum.
The Pakistani Army has been persistently conducting heavy mortar shelling in Uri, Tangdhar, Poonch, Rajouri along the LoC and in Samba along the International Border.
All drones and low-range missiles targeting Jammu airport and defense installations in Jammu city were neutralized by the efficient air defense systems set up by the armed forces.
A complete blackout was observed in Jammu and Srinagar as sirens alerted residents to an imminent attack. Electricity has been partially restored in both cities.
In light of the ongoing situation, all educational institutions, including schools, colleges, and universities, remained closed across J&K on Friday.
Education Minister Sakina Itoo remarked, “Considering the safety of students, all private and government educational institutions shall remain closed on Friday and Saturday.”
The Registrar of Kashmir University also confirmed that classes would be suspended at the university.
Meanwhile, heavy mortar shelling from the Pakistan Army persisted on the 15th day along the LoC, to which the Indian Army effectively responded.
