Patna, April 9 (NationPress) Janata Dal (United) MLC, Neeraj Kumar on Wednesday commended the central government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for its effective efforts in the extradition of Tahawwur Rana, a suspect in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack case.
Kumar referred to this as a significant milestone, stating, “The central government has provided compelling evidence in a US court to facilitate the extradition of Tahawwur Rana to India. We insist on stringent measures against him.”
Rana had connections to terrorist activities, which Kumar termed an “assault on India’s dignity.”
The Pakistani-born Canadian businessman was recognized as an active member of the terrorist group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).
He was instrumental in obtaining travel documents for David Coleman Headley, also known as Dawood Gilani, a Pakistani-American who conducted surveillance on critical targets in Mumbai.
Kumar further emphasized that the extradition process adhered to international legal standards, showcasing the Indian government’s commitment to addressing cross-border terrorist networks seriously.
“The accused will face punishment based on the evidence presented. This case carries substantial political ramifications and serves as a reminder of the escalating global challenge of terrorism that surpasses national boundaries,” Kumar remarked.
He reiterated the JD(U)’s call for stringent action against all individuals involved in anti-national and terrorist activities, stressing the necessity for a zero-tolerance policy towards threats to national security.
Rana has been extradited from the United States and is anticipated to arrive in India shortly, accompanied by a special team of intelligence and investigative officials, according to a source.
A special aircraft is transporting Rana and will make a stop at an undisclosed location before arriving in New Delhi, the source added.
Following recommendations from a US court, high-security arrangements have been established at two prisons in Delhi and Mumbai.
Top government sources have indicated that upon his arrival, Rana will be presented before a National Investigation Agency court in New Delhi for custody.
The Mumbai Crime Branch will subsequently take custody of him.
