Jharkhand Police Eliminate More Than 100 Acres of Opium Cultivation in Just 15 Days

Ranchi, Dec 20 (NationPress) The Jharkhand Police have embarked on an extensive operation targeting unlawful opium cultivation statewide. Within a span of 15 days, they have successfully eradicated more than 100 acres of poppy fields as part of a focused initiative against the narcotics trade.

On Friday, authorities dismantled poppy crops covering 10 acres in the Bariatu police station region of Latehar district.

Following intelligence from Superintendent of Police Kumar Gaurav regarding cultivation on forest land adjacent to the river in Guruve and Khora villages, a team led by Bariatu police station in-charge Devendra Kumar utilized a tractor to eliminate the crops.

Kumar mentioned that those implicated in the unlawful cultivation would be identified, and severe measures would be implemented against them.

This initiative is being actively conducted across numerous districts in the state.

On December 17, police eradicated poppy farming on seven acres within the forests of Fulwar, Bahrabeda, and Kapideh villages under the Rahe police station in Ranchi district.

The December 15 operation cleared two acres of illicit opium cultivation near the Dasham Fall area under the Tamar police station.

On December 16, the police executed their most extensive operation of the season, destroying 25 acres of opium crops in Morenia and Duragada villages close to the forests in Chauparan, Hazaribagh district.

Hazaribagh SP Arvind Kumar Singh stressed that this operation represents a collaborative effort between law enforcement and the Forest Department against the narcotics trade.

Earlier in December, approximately 20 acres of poppy crops were eradicated in Khunti district. Police activities focused on villages under Khunti, Adki, and Murhu police stations, including Ondra, Maranghatu, Sayko, Bhurusudih, Dhoba Kadamdih, Jorko, Kevada, and Bagma.

Similar operations are also being conducted in Palamu and Chatra districts.

The police have employed satellite imagery to more effectively identify illegal cultivation sites.

State Director General of Police (DGP) Anurag Gupta has implemented a zero-tolerance stance towards opium cultivation and has developed a comprehensive action plan to counter it.

Last week, the DGP convened a meeting with senior police officials in Chatra to strategize further actions. The CID headquarters has mandated weekly reports from all districts to track progress on the action plan.

This intensified campaign highlights the state's determination to eradicate the illegal opium trade and enforce strict penalties against those involved.
