Srinagar, Oct 6 (NationPress) The Election Commission has unveiled the timetable for the upcoming by-elections in the Budgam and Nagrota assembly constituencies of Jammu and Kashmir, alongside the schedule for the Bihar elections.

During a press conference in New Delhi, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar announced that the polling in Budgam and Nagrota will take place on November 11, with votes being counted on November 14.

The Budgam Assembly seat became vacant when the National Conference (NC) candidate and current Chief Minister Omar Abdullah secured victory in the 2024 Assembly elections for both Budgam and Ganderbal, opting to retain Ganderbal while resigning from Budgam.

Meanwhile, the Nagrota Assembly seat was previously held by BJP candidate Devender Singh Rana, who sadly passed away in October 2024, leading to this vacancy.

The J&K legislative assembly comprises 90 seats, with 47 located in the Valley and 43 in the Jammu division.

Currently, the NC holds 42 seats, BJP 29, Congress 6, PDP 3, CPI M 1, PC 1, AIP 1, AAP 1, along with 6 independent candidates, five of whom later joined the NC.
