An official disclosed that the CIK executed synchronized search operations at four different locations across Srinagar, Kulgam, and Anantnag districts.
“During this operation, the duo, identified as Dr. Umer Farooq Bhat from Bugam, Kulgam, and his spouse, Shahzada Akhtar, were apprehended. They were living at Shireen Bagh, Srinagar. Dr. Farooq is currently employed at the Super Speciality of SMHS Hospital, Shireen Bagh, Srinagar,” the official stated.
The CIK teams reportedly seized various digital devices and incriminating evidence pertinent to the investigation.
Among the items recovered were five mobile phones, five SIM cards, one tablet device, and other digital and documentary materials.
“Dr. Farooq, a government employee, was discovered involved in online unlawful activities, misusing his official capacity and social credibility to partake in actions harmful to public order and national security,” the official explained.
The female suspect, Shahzada Akhtar, is particularly accused of radicalizing local women through both online and offline initiatives, promoting divisive narratives, and swaying vulnerable groups under the guise of community engagement.
“Her connections with the banned terrorist group ‘Dukhtaran-e-Milat’ are presently under scrutiny,” he added.
All recovered devices are undergoing extensive forensic analysis, which is anticipated to reveal a larger digital network associated with organized propaganda.
“The searches were conducted under warrants issued by the Hon’ble Designated Court pursuant to the NIA Act, Srinagar, relating to FIR No. 05/2025 under Sections 196, 152, 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 13 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, Police Station CIK,” he mentioned.
The official remarked that these operations form part of a continuing effort against social media abusers collaborating with operatives across the border, who are intentionally engaged in advancing terrorist, secessionist, and separatist agendas.
