Srinagar, Nov 28 (NationPress) The ruling National Conference (NC) of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) has extended its working committee meeting in Srinagar for a second day. According to party insiders, the meeting is expected to conclude later today with the passing of resolutions and the announcement of significant decisions.
Led by Dr. Farooq Abdullah, the meeting is being held at the Nawa-e-Subha headquarters located in Srinagar.
Today's session includes participation from Omar Abdullah, the party's vice president and the Chief Minister of J&K, alongside all working committee members and special invitees.
On Thursday, discussions focused on strategies to bolster the party, along with organizational issues and developmental matters relevant to the Union Territory.
The NC is also reflecting on its setbacks during the recent by-elections for two legislative assembly seats, both of which resulted in losses for the NC.
The BJP triumphed in the Nagrota bypoll, while the PDP secured victory in Budgam.
The working committee is also engaged in discussions regarding controversial remarks made by senior NC leader and MP, Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi.
Mehdi has publicly criticized the party, stating it has failed to deliver on promises made during the 2024 elections for both the Lok Sabha and legislative assembly.
To express its discontent with his public criticism, the party did not invite Mehdi to this working committee meeting, despite his status as a permanent member of the NC’s apex committee.
Mehdi shared with reporters that this marks the first occasion since 2002 that he has not been invited to this meeting.
The NC currently holds 41 seats, while the BJP has 29, Congress has 6, and the PDP claims 4 seats, among others, including independents.
The Legislative Assembly in J&K comprises 90 members, with 47 representing the Valley and 43 from the Jammu division.
