Kolkata, May 10 (NationPress) On Saturday, the Special Task Force (STF) of the West Bengal Police apprehended another member of the Bangladesh-based Islamic extremist organization Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) in Diamond Harbour, Kolkata.
An official has identified the individual as Abasuddin Molla, a resident of Patra village located in the Diamond Harbour Lok Sabha constituency within South 24 Parganas.
On Friday, the STF had already detained two other JMB activists, Aazmal Hossain and Saheb Ali Khan, in Nalhati, situated in the Birbhum district of West Bengal.
Authorities revealed that Abasuddin Molla's connections came to light during the interrogation of Aazmal and Saheb. He is currently being taken to Rampurhat in the Birbhum district to face a district court.
Officials further noted that the two JMB operatives arrested the previous day were primarily engaged in activities aimed at recruiting local Muslim youth into various sleeper cells.
In addition, the police have confiscated various digital and physical documents from their possession that confirm their participation in activities against the nation as well as their ties to JMB.
Islamic literature published in Bangladesh was also found among the items seized.
The Union Home Ministry has received intelligence indicating the involvement of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants in the unrest and destruction occurring in the Murshidabad district, which is predominantly inhabited by minorities.
