Is the marriage of Jodha and Akbar a myth?

Jaipur, May 29 (NationPress) The narrative surrounding the political-marital union between Akbar and the Amer royal lineage has been exaggerated and misrepresented, asserted Rajasthan Governor Haribhau Kisanrao Bagde during an event in Udaipur where he challenged the credibility of certain historical accounts.

Governor Bagde pointed out that early Indian history was substantially crafted by foreign writers, leading to numerous misleading facts.

While commemorating Maharana Pratap's birth anniversary in Udaipur, he highlighted historical discrepancies, especially regarding Mughal Emperor Akbar.

Referencing the Akbarnama, he stated, “There is no record of Akbar’s marriage in his official biography. The popularly recounted tale of his wedlock with the Amer princess is also unfounded. I have encountered this assertion, yet it lacks any factual basis or documentation in the Akbarnama.”

He elaborated that Raja Bharmal had linked his daughter to Akbar’s household through a maid's connection rather than through a royal union.

The Governor criticized the educational curriculum for emphasizing Akbar disproportionately over Maharana Pratap, a renowned warrior-king celebrated for his defiance against the Mughals.

“School textbooks tend to glorify Akbar while providing minimal content on Maharana Pratap. This imbalance must be rectified. Thankfully, with the introduction of the New National Education Policy (NEP), initiatives are underway to restore equilibrium and foster pride in our cultural and historical legacy,” Bagde remarked.

He commended Maharana Pratap’s steadfastness in self-respect and independence, asserting that he never yielded, even under immense pressure.

The Governor drew comparisons between Maharana Pratap and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, describing them as embodiments of patriotism and valor.

“There existed a gap of nearly 90 years between them. Had they been contemporaries, India’s history and fate might have unfolded much differently,” he stated.

He also noted that the Bhonsle dynasty of Shivaji Maharaj is linked to the Sisodia dynasty of Mewar, emphasizing the profound historical ties between these two warrior lineages.

In a tribute to the residents along the India-Pakistan border, the Governor praised their bravery and patriotic spirit.

“Even amid conflict, when bullets are flying, these villagers uplift the morale of our soldiers by chanting 'Bharat Mata Ki Jai'. This exemplifies the essence of real India, which safeguards the nation’s soul,” he remarked.

The event was graced by Rajya Sabha MP and Rajasthan BJP President Madan Rathore, as well as Member of Parliament Chunnilal Garasiya, among other dignitaries.
