Kolkata, June 24 (NationPress) - The West Bengal Police announced on Tuesday that they have taken four individuals into custody in relation to the tragic death of a 13-year-old girl caused by a bomb explosion in Kaliganj, located in the Nadia district.

Despite the developments, the state government's statement has neither confirmed nor refuted claims made by the victim's family and local residents that she met her demise due to splinters from a bomb that was thrown during a victory procession organized by the ruling Trinamool Congress.

This procession celebrated the victory of their candidate, Alifa Ahmed, in the recent by-elections for the Kaliganj Assembly seat, which took place on Monday afternoon.

“Following the explosion incident at Molandi, Borochandghar under the jurisdiction of the Kaliganj police station, which resulted in the death of a minor girl, four primary suspects have been arrested: Adar Sk, Manowar Sk, Kalu Sk, and Anwar Sk. A case has been registered under Kaliganj PS Case No. 534/25 dated 23.06.25, citing various sections including 191(2)/191(3)/190/118(2)/109/305/103 BNS and 3/4 ES Act. Investigations and legal actions are currently ongoing,” stated the Krishnagar Police District on Tuesday morning.

Kaliganj falls under the Krishnagar Police District. The victim, Tamanna Khatun, aged 13 and a fourth-grade student, was transported to a local hospital in critical condition after sustaining injuries from the bomb splinters. Unfortunately, she was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.

Following the incident on Monday afternoon, her mother, Sabina Yasmin, expressed to the media that the bombs were aimed at their home by identifiable locals linked to the Trinamool Congress. She indicated that their family was specifically targeted due to their long-standing ideological ties with the CPI(M).

“I recognized the individuals who threw the bombs; I know their faces, and they are affiliated with the Trinamool Congress. My family has been devoted supporters of CPI(M),” she stated on Monday.

The BJP’s Information Technology Cell Chief and the party's central observer for West Bengal, Amit Malviya, condemned the incident, asserting that this represents the blood price of Mamata Banerjee's politically driven and violent tactics.
