Shimla, April 9 (NationPress) Following the assertion made by Bollywood star and newly elected Member of Parliament Kangana Ranaut that she received a monthly electricity bill of Rs 1 lakh for her residence in Manali, the Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board Ltd clarified on Wednesday that her statement was misleading and that she is a defaulter in settling her dues.

The electricity board explained that the bill in question was actually for two months, totaling Rs 90,384.

According to the board, Ranaut has not been consistent with her bill payments, and the connected load at her property is 94.82 kW, which is 1500 percent higher than a typical household.

In their clarification, the board emphasized that it was inaccurate for Kangana Ranaut to assert that the bill was for just one month.

“In the bill issued to Ranaut on March 22, a previous unpaid amount of Rs 32,287 was also factored in, bringing the total bill for two months to Rs 90,384,” a spokesperson for the board stated.

During a public meeting in Mandi on Tuesday, Kangana claimed she received an electricity bill of Rs 1 lakh for her Manali home, where she does not even reside.

“They have raised bus fares, investigations are being conducted on ‘samosa’, and all this makes us feel ashamed. I would liken them to wolves, and we must save the state from their grasp,” the BJP MP from Mandi remarked, directing criticism at the Sukhvinder Sukhu-led Congress government.
