The solemn event will commence at 8:30 AM with the arrival of dignitaries and invitees. The heart of the ceremony will be the wreath-laying, where floral tributes will be paid by senior officials, ex-servicemen, and the families of martyrs, including Veer Naris and Veer Matas.

The Governor of Assam, Lakshman Prasad Acharya, will grace the occasion as the Chief Guest, alongside Lt Gen R.P. Kalita (Retd.) and other esteemed military veterans and officials.

Additionally, Col Dilip Kumar Borah (Retd.), Lt Gen P.K. Bharali (Retd.), and representatives from all three armed services – Army, Navy, and Air Force – will also be present.

The programme will feature a ceremonial salute by NCC cadets, a skit by Army School Narengi, and speeches reflecting on the experiences of the Kargil War.

In recognition of their family's supreme sacrifice, Veer Naris will be honored during the event. A patriotic song performed by NCC cadets will wrap up the formal proceedings, leading into high tea and informal conversations with dignitaries.

This gathering aims to cultivate a spirit of pride, patriotism, and appreciation among citizens, especially the youth, while reinforcing the values of unity and sacrifice.

Kargil Vijay Diwas, observed annually on July 26, serves as a tribute to the martyrs who bravely defended our nation against Pakistani forces in the Kargil region 26 years ago.

The Kargil War ignited in May 1999 when Pakistani troops and militants crossed into Indian territory along the Line of Control (LoC), taking control of strategic peaks in the Kargil area of Jammu and Kashmir.

This incursion resulted in a full-scale military confrontation between India and Pakistan. After weeks of fierce combat, the Indian Army successfully regained control of all occupied positions by late July, culminating in the official end of the war on July 26.

Point of View
