The Indian Army and Assam Rifles observed the 27th Kargil Vijay Diwas across Tripura on 27 July with a series of patriotic, educational, and community outreach programmes, paying tribute to the soldiers who laid down their lives during the 1999 Kargil War. The commemorations, spanning Agartala and Radhanagar, brought together citizens, students, veterans, Veer Naris, and civil administration officials in a collective act of remembrance.

Tributes at Albert Ekka War Memorial

Army units under the Spear Corps and Assam Rifles organised the central commemorative programme at the Albert Ekka War Memorial in Agartala. The event opened with patriotic musical performances by the Army Symphony Band, followed by cultural presentations from artists of the Tripura government celebrating the courage and sacrifice of the Armed Forces.

A Pipe Band display by the 21 Sector Assam Rifles drew appreciation from the audience, while a specially curated documentary on Operation Vijay was screened, highlighting the determination and gallantry of Indian soldiers during the Kargil conflict. Informative display boards tracing the timeline of Operation Vijay, key battles, gallantry award winners, and significant milestones were also exhibited for the benefit of visitors, particularly students.

Student Engagement and Quiz Contest

An interactive Kargil Quiz Contest was held to deepen awareness of India's military history among the younger generation. Participants reportedly displayed strong knowledge of the Kargil conflict, making the session both educational and engaging. According to officials, such initiatives are designed to nurture patriotism and a sense of national service among youth.

Medical Camp for Veterans and Veer Naris

As part of its welfare outreach, the Indian Army organised a dedicated medical camp at the Military Hospital in Agartala, exclusively for veterans, Veer Naris, and Next of Kin (NoKs). Specialist doctors across multiple disciplines provided health screenings, consultations, and medical advice, reaffirming the Army's stated commitment to the well-being of those who have served and their families.

Assam Rifles: Wreath-Laying, Blood Donation, and School Events

Assam Rifles conducted parallel commemorative programmes at Radhanagar and Agartala, featuring wreath-laying ceremonies at Shaurya Sthals, where Officers, Junior Commissioned Officers (JCOs), and Other Ranks paid floral tributes to the Kargil martyrs. A documentary screening on Operation Vijay was also held for local residents and students.

Assam Rifles Public School observed the day with student-led activities including patriotic group songs, poem recitations, drawing competitions, and inspirational speeches. In a further act of community service, Assam Rifles, in collaboration with GBP Hospital, organised a blood donation camp in Agartala. Ex-servicemen, civilians, and Assam Rifles personnel participated voluntarily, with medical teams from GBP Hospital overseeing the camp in accordance with prescribed protocols.

Army officials said these programmes reinforce the bond between the Armed Forces and the people of Tripura, and that such outreach will continue to inspire the youth while keeping the memory of the Kargil heroes alive.
