Bengaluru, March 7 (NationPress) The government of Karnataka has significantly raised the annual funding for infrastructure development in the state capital, Bengaluru, a renowned IT hub, from ₹3,000 crore to ₹7,000 crore.
During the presentation of the Budget for the fiscal year 2025-26, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah emphasized that his administration prioritizes basic infrastructure in Bengaluru, which plays a crucial role in the state’s economy.
The annual grant has been increased from ₹3,000 crore to ₹7,000 crore this year, he highlighted.
The government has assured BBMP of ₹19,000 crore to facilitate the North-South and East-West corridor projects, which will have a total cost of ₹40,000 crore, as stated by CM Siddaramaiah.
Namma Metro is essential for reducing traffic congestion in Bengaluru, catering to approximately 8.5 lakh commuters daily.
Currently, Namma Metro operates 68 stations across a 79.65 km rail network, with plans to extend by an additional 98.60 km over the next two years.
The network is anticipated to reach Devanahalli, with a line passing through Bengaluru International Airport.
CM Siddaramaiah announced that the rejuvenation of Varthur and Bellandur lakes is underway, with a budget of ₹234 crore allocated by the Bengaluru Development Authority.
As part of the ‘Brand Bengaluru – Green Bengaluru’ initiative, projects related to 14 lakes are being executed by BBMP at a cost of ₹35 crore, he mentioned.
The Bengaluru Suburban Railway Project is being developed at an investment of ₹15,767 crore, encompassing 148 km of rail and 58 stations.
Work is ongoing on two of the four planned corridors, with the tendering process for the remaining two expected to complete promptly, as stated by the CM.
To address traffic congestion, he stated, "We aim to transform significant roads in Bengaluru into signal-free corridors."
“The following measures will be undertaken: A 40.5 km double-decker flyover will be constructed at ₹8,916 crore alongside Namma Metro Phase 3. An additional 300 km road network will be built using canal buffer zones, costing ₹3,000 crore. The arterial and sub-arterial road network covering 460 km in the BBMP area will be enhanced for ₹660 crore. Flyovers and grade separators totaling 120 km will be constructed within the city,” he elaborated.
BBMP has significantly boosted property tax revenue through various reforms. The introduction of online e-Khata and technology use has streamlined public service delivery and improved revenue collection.
The BBMP (Estate Management) Rules, 2024, have been established for better governance and regulation of the corporation’s properties, resulting in an additional revenue of ₹4,556 crore.
Additionally, the implementation of the Corporation's Advertisement Bye-laws 2025 is projected to generate an extra ₹750 crore, as mentioned by CM Siddaramaiah.
A ‘Comprehensive Health Programme’ will be launched over the next three years under the Brand Bengaluru Plan with a budget of ₹413 crore, aiming to elevate Bengaluru to global health standards.
The government is set to allocate ₹3,000 crore to BBMP and BWSSB for the development of a systematic drainage network and sewage treatment plants to combat climate change-induced flooding in Bengaluru, the CM stated.
A ₹27,000 crore initiative has been outlined to construct a 73 km road, renaming the long-standing Peripheral Ring Road project to ‘Bengaluru Business Corridor’. The land acquisition process has begun with dedicated teams, he stated.
