Bengaluru, Sep 30 (NationPress) The Karnataka BJP criticized Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Tuesday, asserting that the people require urgent and effective relief rather than a mere “photo shoot” of his aerial survey concerning the flood situation. On this day, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah conducted an aerial assessment of the flood conditions in the northern Karnataka districts of Kalaburagi, Bidar, Yadgir, and Vijayapura.
R. Ashoka, the Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly, remarked, “It’s a relief that your government, which appeared to be lethargic, has finally acknowledged the flood crisis in Kalyana Karnataka – better late than never.”
However, Ashoka emphasized, “What the residents of the flood-affected Kalyana Karnataka truly need is not a ‘photo shoot’ of your aerial survey, but immediate and effective relief.”
He further urged that the aerial survey should not become another “symbolic exercise.”
Before your aircraft takes off, let your government’s relief efforts take flight – this is my sincere appeal, with the following requests. Announce a Rs 50,000 emergency relief for each affected family without delay, he insisted.
Ashoka advised against excuses like “software glitches”, “server outages”, or other bureaucratic obstacles as seen in previous years. He demanded that Rs 50,000 be released as emergency relief to every family in relief camps immediately. Do not postpone aid and let flood victims spend Deepavali in despair and darkness,” he reiterated.
When the floodwaters recede, district in-charge ministers, MLAs, and officials must visit each village to conduct a thorough assessment of crop damage, property loss, and livestock impact, he urged.
During my tenure as Revenue Minister in the earlier BJP-led government, then CM B. S. Yediyurappa ensured on-the-spot cheque distribution. This Congress government should follow suit and provide immediate compensation at the site, Ashoka asserted.
Ashoka additionally noted, “After the floods, the risk of widespread epidemics rises. The Health Department must act swiftly. Mobile health units should be sent to every village to raise awareness, stockpile essential medications, and implement necessary preventive measures against infectious diseases.”
In this challenging time for the residents of Kalyana Karnataka, the Congress government must respond with empathy. A special economic package of Rs 10,000 crore should be announced – and not just announced, but also disbursed – to aid reconstruction and rehabilitation efforts, Ashoka urged.
He claimed there have been numerous instances over the past two years where many genuine flood and drought victims were excluded from relief.
“This time, ensure that no one is overlooked. Publicly disclose all information regarding who received what compensation, and prevent any political exploitation or corruption in the relief process,” Ashoka insisted.
