New Delhi, Aug 3 (NationPress) The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Karnataka has firmly responded to a letter from former minister and Congress leader H. Nagesh. In his letter, Nagesh requested a copy of a document he claimed to have submitted in April 2023, which accused the voter list for the Mahadevapura Assembly Constituency of containing forged entries.
In a communication dated August 2, 2025, Joint Chief Electoral Officer S. Yogeshwar stated that the office has no record of receiving such a document from Nagesh back in April 2023.
This response came after Nagesh, in a letter dated July 31, 2025, sought a copy of the purported submission, mentioning that his team had lost the original documents that detailed the alleged forged entries in the voter list.
“This office does not hold any records of a letter from you regarding the electoral rolls in April 2023,” the CEO's communication indicated, stressing that the issue is being raised now, well over two years after the supposed submission.
The election office also emphasized that a statutory copy of the electoral roll is routinely provided to candidates during elections and is readily accessible online.
“The office maintains a statutory copy of the electoral roll, which is available online and has been provided to candidates during elections, including yourself when you contested,” the CEO's letter highlighted.
Interestingly, the CEO’s office pointed out that Nagesh did not submit any election petition under Section 80 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, nor did he approach any appellate authority regarding the 2023 electoral rolls under Section 24 of the Representation of the People Act, 1950.
Nagesh, who contested the 2023 Assembly elections from Mahadevapura on a Congress ticket, claimed that discrepancies in the voter list undermined electoral transparency.
Nonetheless, the CEO's response seems to undermine the existence of any previous official complaint, raising further questions regarding the timing and motivations behind the renewed allegations.
