Davanagere (Karnataka), Nov 25 (NationPress) In a shocking turn of events, two Sub-Inspectors of the Karnataka Police have been apprehended along with two other individuals in relation to a gold robbery case in the Davanagere district of the state on Tuesday.
The robbery took place within the jurisdiction of the KTJ Nagar police station in Davanagere city.
The police officers involved have been named as Malappa Chippalakatti and Praveen Kumar, both stationed at the IGP's office, while the other two suspects, Sathish Revanakar and Nagaraj Revanakar, were employed as assistants at a local gold shop.
The arrests followed a complaint lodged by Vishwanath Arkasali, a gold trader from Karwar.
Reports indicate that Vishwanath, who procures gold from merchants in Davanagere to create jewelry, was at the Davanagere bus station with 80 grams of gold. On Monday, he had bought gold and rings and was on his way to Hubballi around midnight, intending to travel to Karwar as part of his business.
However, after allegedly receiving information from the other suspects, the sub-inspectors, pretending to be members of the IG Squad, displayed their police identification, assaulted him, brandished a fake gun, and forcibly took him away in a vehicle. They drove close to the KTJ Nagar police station without entering, snatched the gold, and abandoned him near the bus stop before fleeing.
In response to the complaint, the KTJ Nagar police took immediate action due to the involvement of police personnel in the crime. They conducted an investigation, identified the suspects, and apprehended all four. The individuals have been remanded to judicial custody, and the vehicle used in the crime has been confiscated. Further investigations are currently ongoing.
