Karnataka Government Supports Priyank Kharge; Transfers Contractor Suicide Case to CID

Bengaluru, Dec 30 (NationPress) Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara stated on Monday that the investigation into the suicide of a contractor, who reportedly faced threats to his life and extortion from an aide of Minister Priyank Kharge, has been transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

While addressing the media in Bengaluru, Home Minister Parameshwara remarked, “There is absolutely no necessity for Minister Priyank Kharge to resign. His name is being unjustly implicated, leading to calls for his resignation.”

He emphasized that making unfounded allegations against ministers is inappropriate.

Officials from the department indicated that Minister Kharge’s name does not appear in the suicide note.

He suggested that attempts are being made to damage the government's reputation by involving the minister in this case.

“To uncover the truth, we have forwarded the case to the CID after consultations with the Chief Minister,” he asserted.

Home Minister Parameshwara also clarified that actions would be taken based on the investigation's conclusions.

In response to the BJP's demand to refer the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), he stated, “Not every case can be handed over to the CBI. The CID is fully capable. Haven’t we received investigative reports from the CID on numerous occasions? We will not act on every statement made by the BJP.”

“If they provide constructive feedback, we will consider it. However, if they merely politicize the situation, we will disregard it,” he added.

Regarding the accusations against Minister for Women and Child Welfare Laxmi Hebbalkar, where BJP MLC C.T. Ravi allegedly used disrespectful language, he commented, “The truth surrounding this issue must also be established. The CID has commenced its investigation into this matter.”

The minister urged the public to celebrate the New Year in a responsible and safe manner.

“I have conducted meetings with senior officials and instructed them to implement necessary safety measures. Adequate arrangements have been made to ensure the festivities do not inconvenience anyone. I request everyone to celebrate the New Year peacefully,” he appealed.

A 26-year-old contractor named Sachin tragically took his own life on Thursday in Karnataka's Kalaburagi district after allegedly facing threats and extortion from an aide of Priyank Kharge.

The contractor left behind a seven-page suicide note, claiming that the actions of the aide and former member of the Kalaburagi City Corporation, Raju Kapanuru, compelled him to take this extreme measure.

The opposition leader in the Karnataka Legislative Council, Chalavadi Narayanaswamy, accused district in-charge minister Priyank Kharge of abusing his authority and called for his resignation and arrest in relation to the contractor's suicide.

He further alleged that the Kharge family is operating a 'republic' in their hometown of Kalaburagi.
