Bengaluru, April 21 (NationPress) In response to the criticism from the BJP and JD(S) regarding the caste census report, Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara emphasized on Monday that making unfounded accusations is fruitless.
Addressing reporters, HM Parameshwara remarked, “The Opposition criticizes everything. We consistently inform them that making unnecessary allegations is futile. Yet, they persist in targeting the caste census report.”
When questioned about Opposition Leader R. Ashoka’s claim that the original caste census report is missing, he replied, “How could the original copy of the caste census possibly go missing? It should be with the commissionerate.”
In response to the suggestion from Backward Classes Commission Chairperson Jayaprakash Hegde that the original document is untraceable, the Home Minister expressed his ignorance about it. “The original copy should indeed be present,” he asserted.
Regarding the BJP's call for a judicial inquiry and allegations about the misuse of funds intended for the caste census, HM Parameshwara indicated that the issue would be discussed in Cabinet meetings.
HM Parameshwara further clarified, “Previously, around 10 committees were established to ensure justice for Backward Classes. During those periods, sample data was collected, and reports were generated. This time, comprehensive data has been compiled, making this caste census report particularly significant.”
“The examination will include social, economic, and academic conditions of the populace. A caste census is therefore essential. The data must be analyzed. Presently, claims of discrepancies have arisen, which need to be thoroughly discussed and resolved. This discussion has commenced within the Cabinet,” HM Parameshwara stated.
He noted that the Chief Minister has postponed the issue for further deliberation, as various ministers have expressed concerns related to their respective communities. “The government will need to make a determination based on these discussions,” he mentioned.
“There are varying opinions even among BJP and JD(S) members, as some of their MLAs have shown support for the caste census. Naturally, some individuals are in favor, while others oppose the manner in which it was conducted,” Parameshwara observed.
Previously, Opposition Leader R. Ashoka had alleged that the current report is a phony version of the caste census.
“According to a letter from Jayaprakash Hegde, former chairman of the Backward Classes Permanent Commission, the original caste census report is absent,” he stated.
At a press conference on Sunday, he accused Chief Minister Siddaramaiah of releasing the caste census report without regard for the state's progress.
“Pregnant women are perishing in government hospitals, and not a single road has been constructed. In this context, the government is prioritizing the caste census report,” he criticized.
