Is the Drug Mafia Thriving in Karnataka? BJP Demands G. Parameshwara's Resignation
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Bengaluru, Dec 29 (NationPress) The Karnataka Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has claimed that the drug mafia is thriving throughout the state, accusing the Congress-led administration of enabling these activities. They have called for the resignation of Home Minister G. Parameshwara.
During a press conference at the BJP state headquarters, Jagannath Bhavan in Bengaluru, Chalavadi Narayanaswamy, the Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council, insisted that the Home Minister should resign if he is unable to manage the Home Department.
Narayanaswamy asserted that the drug mafias have expanded significantly in Karnataka, alleging that the Congress government is not only aware but is also complicit, describing it as a “drug government.”
At the conference, Narayanaswamy unveiled a poster that read, “Minister who claims ignorance, resign and go.”
He questioned the Home Minister's ability to continue “ruining the state” with ongoing excuses.
“You should resign. If someone else has the capability, let them take over,” he stated.
Directly addressing G. Parameshwara, Narayanaswamy inquired whether the current state of affairs indicated the minister’s inability or if there was a conspiracy to damage his reputation.
Reaffirming his claims, Narayanaswamy noted the growing presence of drug mafias in Karnataka, alleging that they have the Congress government’s backing, reiterating the notion of a “drug government.”
He mentioned reports of drug manufacturing units operating in various locations across the state.
Claiming that law and order have deteriorated in Karnataka, Narayanaswamy emphasized that the BJP has consistently raised these concerns with supporting evidence.
“Numerous rape incidents, loss of lives, and murders have occurred, yet this government has failed to act,” he alleged.
Making serious accusations, he suggested that there are suspicions that the government may be involved in the drug trade.
“Our government is not detaining drug dealers. The Maharashtra Police had to raid drug manufacturing sites in Mysuru and Bengaluru,” he stated.
He questioned the efficiency of the Home Department and the police and intelligence agencies.
Narayanaswamy alleged that after the Maharashtra Police revealed these issues, the Congress-led government in Karnataka tried to take credit for the actions.
He further accused the government of supporting drug sale hubs.
“The land once known for its sandalwood is now a ganja hub. Students are now reconsidering their choice of attending college,” he remarked.
Stating that the Anti-Naxal Force's operations have nearly ceased, Narayanaswamy demanded its transformation into an Anti-Drugs Force to dismantle the drug network entirely. He criticized the Congress government for severely damaging the state and urged the Chief Minister to act swiftly.
“Let the Chief Minister decide who should resign, him or the Home Minister,” he said.
Present at the press conference were MLC Bharathi Shetty, BJP state spokesperson Prakash Shesharaghavachar, and BJP leader R. Rudraiah.
