Is Karnataka's HM Parameshwara Expecting a 'Promotion' This Year?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Bengaluru, Jan 1 (NationPress) In light of the ongoing leadership conflict between Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar, G. Parameshwara, the state’s Home Minister and a prominent Dalit figure, expressed optimism regarding a potential promotion this year, contingent on the decisions made by the Congress high command.
This statement carries significant weight as Parameshwara has been identified as a possible Chief Ministerial candidate should there be a shift in leadership within Siddaramaiah's faction.
When approached about the prospect of advancing in his political journey, Parameshwara remarked to reporters that such an advancement might materialize in 2026 if the high command deems it appropriate. "I have always maintained an optimistic outlook, and this should not come as a surprise," he commented.
"Doesn't everyone in your (media) profession have aspirations? Ambition is a fundamental trait of humanity; without it, we would cease to be human. I share the same ambitions as anyone else. When I entered politics, my goal was to become an MLA, then a minister, and I aspired to ascend to each subsequent level. Ultimately, all of this lies in the hands of the high command," he noted.
When questioned about the current party dynamics favoring his potential rise, Parameshwara responded, "You (the media) are the ones making these assessments. Daily, you scrutinize and evaluate whether the environment is favorable through your lens."
In reference to a video depicting inmates allegedly receiving special treatment at Kalaburagi prison, he stated, "I have instructed the new Director General of Prisons, Alok Kumar, to inspect the facility. He will visit Kalaburagi prison on Friday and will also personally assess the prisons in Belagavi and Kalaburagi."
Addressing the recent uptick in theft incidents, he noted, "We have observed a rise in thefts lately. There are suspicions that organized groups involved in these crimes may have infiltrated the state from elsewhere. We are actively investigating this and will take action if such groups are identified."
On the topic of promotions within the IPS, he said, "For the first time in our department, we have conducted widespread promotions for IGPs and DIGs. Approximately 30 IPS officers have been promoted and assigned new responsibilities. They are well-trained professionals, and we anticipate their contribution to the state will be significant."
"I shared breakfast with officers, and we refrained from discussing any official matters. For the first time, the Centre has allocated Rs 350 crore for the modernization of the Police Department, and I extend my gratitude to the Union government for this support. Our consistent efforts, including ADGP S. Murugan’s numerous visits to Delhi, have borne fruit," he concluded.
He emphasized that the modernization initiative would greatly benefit the department.
