Bengaluru, July 10 (NationPress) In light of the ongoing discussions surrounding potential leadership shifts in Karnataka, Home Minister and senior Congress figure G. Parameshwara stated on Thursday that the party's high command is diligently observing all happenings and will make a timely decision.
Speaking to journalists at his residence in Bengaluru, Parameshwara addressed inquiries regarding the leadership conflict and the calls from various factions within the party — including Dalit leaders — advocating for his consideration for the Chief Minister's role should a shift occur. “I am naturally calm and composed. I don’t wish to initiate another spectacle. Let’s set this matter aside,” he remarked, minimizing the rumors regarding his own candidacy.
He further commented: “From my political experience, the high command observes everything and makes decisions when it is appropriate. I can’t assert whether this is the right moment, tomorrow, or if the moment has already elapsed. The high command is aware of what actions to take and when.”
When queried about the ongoing public statements from numerous leaders — despite party advisories — and CM Siddaramaiah’s son, Dr. Yathindra, asserting that his father will serve the complete five-year tenure, Parameshwara stated, “Numerous drama companies are functioning in the state. Leaders should avoid making contradictory remarks. The Chief Minister is providing effective governance, and I won’t contribute to the drama.”
Parameshwara also responded to inquiries regarding recent comments by AICC General Secretary Randeep Singh Surjewala, who mentioned that the party would honor discussions on leadership.
“I’m not familiar with that specific statement,” Parameshwara said, noting that individuals perceive situations differently. “The party president is engaging with MLAs, as is the Chief Minister. Surjewala is currently conducting one-on-one discussions with each MLA and gathering their opinions.”
He clarified that any developments potentially detrimental to the party's interests are being monitored, and suitable guidance will be provided.
“If anything is discovered that contradicts the party's interests, it will be taken seriously, and appropriate actions will follow.”
Parameshwara emphasized that internal democracy has always been a fundamental principle of the Congress.
“This is not a recent occurrence. Our party boasts a rich legacy. We have endured for 138 years due to our internal democracy, operational methods, dedication, and ideology. Minor disputes will always emerge in any party, but they will be resolved.”
