Bengaluru, July 29 (NationPress) The Karnataka BJP Yuva Morcha has called for the resignation of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Home Minister G. Parameshwara following the discovery of a drug manufacturing facility in Mysuru, the CM's hometown.
During a raid by the Mumbai police's Saki Naka team last Saturday, four individuals, including a mechanical engineer, were apprehended in connection with the illicit operation. The police seized 188 kilograms of mephedrone, valued at approximately Rs 383 crore.
At a press conference at BJP's state headquarters, Jagannath Bhavan, on Tuesday, Dheeraj Muniraj, State President of BJP Yuva Morcha and MLA, demanded the resignation of both the Chief Minister and Home Minister, emphasizing their moral responsibility regarding the drug manufacturing case identified by Mumbai Police in Mysuru — the CM's home district.
Dheeraj Muniraj urged the Congress government to implement stringent measures against drug-related crimes. He announced that the BJP Yuva Morcha would organize a protest in Mysuru on Wednesday (July 30) against the district administration and the Superintendent of Police.
He stated that the government, CM, and Home Minister are obliged to take serious actions to prevent further criminal engagements.
“Firm actions should be enforced against any officers involved and politicians who facilitated the operation,” he emphasized.
MLA Dheeraj added that the Yuva Morcha will amplify its anti-drug initiatives in Bengaluru and expand to all districts of Karnataka.
He questioned whether the state government is misusing police resources and operating with funds from illegal drug trafficking.
“If drug suppliers are located in the constituency of the AICC President and manufacturing is occurring in the Chief Minister's district, what can we really inquire about? This conveys a dreadful message,” he remarked.
The BJYM condemned the drug network and the government's inaction, cautioning that the youth risk becoming addicted if the Narcotics Control Bureau does not take decisive measures.
Dheeraj pointed out that, in the past year alone, drug seizures worth over Rs 1,300 crore have been recorded.
“Even though Maharashtra Police executed a drug raid in Kalaburagi, the Karnataka government has remained inactive,” he alleged.
Highlighting the deteriorating law enforcement condition, Dheeraj noted, “The Maharashtra Anti-Narcotics Squad performed a raid near Mysuru — the CM’s home district — and uncovered a synthetic drug manufacturing unit hidden behind a car service center. How could this occur without local police awareness?”
He mentioned that since the Congress party assumed power, the drug issue has escalated, starting with the drug seizure at Mangaluru Port in 2023. He also referred to the recent arrest of Kalaburagi Block Congress President Lingaraju by the Mumbai Police, insinuating that his political ties are widely recognized.
“The drug trafficking case in Kalaburagi and the manufacturing in the CM’s district, while being supplied from the AICC President’s constituency, is a significant stain on Karnataka,” he stated.
“What actions are the police and narcotics units undertaking?” he queried, noting that in 2024, CM Siddaramaiah and Home Minister Parameshwara introduced a ‘Drug-Free Karnataka’ app, which has not produced any tangible outcomes. He also criticized the collapse of law and order in the state.
He observed that the Mysuru Commissioner suspended Narasimharaja Police Station Inspector Lakshmikant Talwar in connection with the case. “How can this occur without police awareness? The intelligence division is under the CM’s control. If this is the situation in his district, what might the condition be in other parts of Karnataka?” he questioned.
He expressed alarm that drug trafficking and usage are leading to an increase in violent crime. “It’s tragic that drugs are now being produced right here,” he lamented.
BJYM State General Secretary Sandeep Ravi, State Secretary Deepak Kumar, and former Bengaluru Central District President Abhilash Reddy were also present at the press conference.
