Is Karnataka BJP Protesting in CM Siddaramaiah's Hometown Over Drug Issues?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Bengaluru, Jan 13 (NationPress) The Karnataka BJP State President and MLA B.Y. Vijayendra has declared that the party will stage a protest in Mysuru, the native district of CM Siddaramaiah, to highlight the serious issue of the extensive drug network operating within the state.
During a press briefing at the BJP state headquarters, Jagannath Bhavan in Bengaluru on Tuesday, Vijayendra addressed inquiries from journalists.
It is significant to mention that in July 2025, the Maharashtra Police, in collaboration with the Mysuru City Police, dismantled a significant MDMA (mephedrone) manufacturing operation located in a garage in Mysuru, Karnataka.
Vijayendra pointed out that despite Mysuru being the Chief Minister’s home district, a drug production facility was uncovered there, illustrating the pervasive influence of the drug mafia across Karnataka, including Mysuru. Given this alarming situation, the party has resolved to proceed with the protest in Mysuru, he stated. Regarding the Ballari padayatra, he mentioned that the party’s high command would make a decision.
In response to another inquiry, Vijayendra noted that on Monday, a team led by senior BJP MLA Vishwanath held a press conference concerning a fact-finding mission related to the demolition in Kogilu Layout of Bengaluru.
He explained that homes of illegal migrants were demolished, and subsequently, AICC General Secretary K.C. Venugopal intervened, prompting the Siddaramaiah government to pursue a “patch-up” strategy.
He asserted that the BJP has emphasized that despite numerous underprivileged individuals seeking housing, many have yet to receive it.
The BJP, he claimed, would not permit illegal migrants to take advantage of the situation and would ensure taxpayer funds are not squandered.
After local BJP leaders took a firm stance, he claimed there were indications that Congress leaders themselves relocated illegal migrants overnight.
Furthermore, he mentioned that when BJP leaders visited the area, hired individuals from other constituencies were brought in. Such theatrics would not be tolerated, he stated.
Former Chief Minister and MP Jagadish Shettar and former Deputy Chief Minister and MP Govind Karjol were present at the press conference.
